Project management is not only an activity, is a mindset. Each technical term, characterizing PMs’ word, as implementation, dissemination, impacts, brings deep implications in one’s project‘s development. Again, among other crucial actions that guarantee a successful implementation of a project, time management plays a very crucial role!
Referring to founded projects to be developed, besides the specific activities, deliverables, and shared responsibilities inside the partnership…. PM must manage time, according to the project timeline. A very efficient time control is one of the ingredients for a successful execution of the work plan and quality results.
Which are the main tools that a PM can use for time management?
Probably it is possible to find more then an answer to this question, but it also true that the prior tool to use is a Gantt chart. According to its creator, Henry L. Gantt, American engineer, and social scientist, a Gantt can be defined as a horizontal bar chart developed as a production control tool. It allows to the PM to have an overview of the activities/tasks and outputs of the project (vertical axis), distributed along a timeline broken into years/months, even days if necessary, (horizontal axis).
Basically, the Gantt chart “sum up” the project in a nutshell and thanks to such a structure, the PM can feel and control its implementation step by step, or better, milestone by milestone…
On the other hand, every Project Manager must remember any time, that a project is a process!
That’s the reason why project management is not only an activity, becomes a mindset as you experience!
